Pavane for a Silent Night

Alfred Church Choral Series

Maurice Ravel, words Shaffermann

Arrangement and adaptation by Patrick M Liebergen

SAB with optional oboe part

65 copies available

If you want something different for your Christmas concert then this is it!! Based upon Ravel's "Pavane pour une infante defunte", Jean Shaffermann has added words to make this suitable for Christmas. Achievable but challenging enough to stretch an intermediate community choir without it being stressful, it is the most glorious piece of music and my choir begged to sing it two years running. Highly recommended.

Lovely song from The Polar Express, the words never mention Santa so this can also be used as a contemporary song to portray how we should re-affirm our faith in the nativity. Occasionally splits into four parts (sopranos split) and highest note for sopranos is a fleeting top G. A few places where the rhythms will need reinforcing, but the choir loved singing it.

A lovely original composition in three flats. Starts SA unison followed by men and evolves into some beautiful harmonies. Sopranos have a top G but an optional E is given also.  Suitable for an intermediate community choir rather than complete beginners, but well worth doing and no major surprises. This gorgeous classic from 1931 is lovely to sing  but has some tricky intervals to create the jazz chords, and I adjusted the timing slightly so that the choir were singing the song as they "knew it" -  a case of double dotting in some places!! The arrangement is not too high -  sopranos don't go above a top E and it changes key part way through but still only two sharps. You can also hear this one at www.sheetmusicplus.com
